Summer learning journey Week 2 day 6 activity 1

For this task I had to read some phrases of the country I am going to. I need to write a poem about what I would have been feeling like in a foreign country trying to figure out how to communicate with people in a different language.

I can't speak their language so nobody can talk to me.

If only it was easy, as counting one, two, three.

Learning a new language is quite frustrating.

The amount of time I will take for this training.

Can become extremely long.

In other words I may be gone.

Hello Harry, you have come up with a really interesting and creative poem. I like how you included rhymes in your poem. It would be nice if you commented on my blog post for this activity. Keep up the great work.

Kia ora Harry!

I'm Mark, one of the teachers working on the Summer Learning Journey with Rachel and Dan. I hope you're enjoying the programme. It looks like you're doing some really high quality work.

I used to live in Korea and I can say it is very hard to pick up an entire language, but you can do it a little at a time if you try hard enough. Luckily, for most countries, English is an accepted second language for business. I made do with just a few survival phrases and knowing how to read their alphabet.

Keep up the great work!

Mark

Hi AJ, I try to comment on everybody's blogposts but it's either I am too busy or lazy. I will try to comment on your activities today.

G'day Harry,

First off - I'm really impressed that you managed to rhyme each line of your poem, well done that is really clever! If you were in a country that didn't speak English I can imagine it would be quite daunting, maybe even lonely if you didn't have anyone who understood you.

In this activity for your learning journey, it might have been a little unclear but we were hoping you could write a poem about arriving in the foreign country that you had chosen to visit, which in this case was Australia for you! So I don't think you'll have to worry too much about having to learn a new language, they speak English there too :-) Just maybe say 'G'day' 'or Crikey!' a bit more and you'll be right!

Keep up the blogging Harry, and good on you for commenting on other blogs too. It can take a bit of effort, but I'm really impressed that you're giving it such a good go!

Dan.
