This activity requires me to compare the picture of common breakfast foods in the country I've chosen with what I typically eat for breakfast here in New Zealand.
In NZ I usually eat some rice pops and sometimes Weetbix. The country I have chosen (Australia) has Vegemite on toast.
I don't know what vegemite tastes like so I have searched it up and I'm sure I probably won't like it since it is a bit bitter it says if you don't like beer you probably won't like it and it's like trying chili sauce for the first time. This is the ---> Link <--- to the site I got it from.

Hi Harry,
I love that you went ahead and did some independent research in order to learn more about Vegemite. That shows great initiative. Well done! I am struggling, however, to find the link for the site that you used online. Can you please insert it again when you have a minute? Thanks!
Like you, I had to 'Google' Vegemite when I first arrived in New Zealand as I met a number of people who raved about it and wanted me to try it but I wasn't sure what it was. Upon reading about it, I was pretty convinced that it wouldn't be something that I would like but I did try it. And, not surprisingly, I was right! It tasted really odd to me - very salty and a little bitter. It also had a very strong after taste...
I think that I'll stick to peanut butter on toast or cereal for breakfast! Rice pops are pretty good, aren't they? They remind me of a North American cereal called 'Rice Krispies' that we used to eat all the time. They came in a blue box that had three characters, 'Snap, Crackle and Pop' painted on the front. They were designed to represent the sound of eating Rice Krispies - they snapped, crackled and popped in the bowl of milk and in your mouth. Do Rice Pops make a noise when you pour milk over them? I'll have to try it out at home tonight!
Hope that you had a nice breakfast today :)
Cheers,
Rachel
Kia ora Harry,
I'm always going to be interested as soon as we start talking about food! Luckily Australia is pretty similar to us, so there won't be too many differences in breakfast options. I like your choice though - vegemite on toast is very Australian!
Have you ever tried Marmite on toast before? Whilst not identical in taste, they are very similar. So if you have tasted Marmite, then you'll have a fair idea of what vegemite tastes like too. It's a bit unusual, and many people when they arrive in New Zealand or Australia think it's a very odd thing to have for breakfast!
When I was still in school, I used to have between 6-8 Weet-Bix every morning. How many can you eat? I don't eat nearly that much anymore, I don't think I could even if I tried - I'd be waaaay too full! Nowadays I just settle for toast with peanut butter and jam.
The good news is that they still have Rice Pops and Weet-Bix in Australia too. So if you don't like the taste of vegemite, you can still have something yum!
P.S. Thanks for including the link to where you found out about vegemite. That's awesome research!
Dan.
Hi Harry
I've tried vegemite before and I found it delicious. Maybe you have different tastes compared to my. Nice job.
Daniel
Hello Harry, I have tried Vegemite on toast before and it tastes quite good but if you eat it by itself it will taste bad. Keep up the great work.
Hi there Harry,
I'm Von a year 7 student from S.P.X school. I agree with Aminiasi, it sure taste nice if you try eating Vegemite on toast. When I first experience tasting Vegemite I knew that I'm never going to eat Vegemite anymore.. but later on I got used to eating it.. so yeah.. don't be scared to try even though you think it may taste bad or disgusting..
Von,
