Summer learning journey week 1 day 3 activity 1

For this activity I needed to watch Air New Zealand Men In Black’ video and Air New ZealandSafety in Hollywood’ video. Once I finished watching them. I had to list 3 things that you need to do to stay safe on an airplane.

1. Whenever there is an emergency put your hands on your head, make sure your feet are firm and brace against the seat in front of you.

2. If there is an emergency where you might crash into the water. Take the life jacket that is beneath your seat. Then rip the tag out so you can take the jacket, once you have done that put it over your head and clip the wastebands. There is a red tab that inflates your life jacket but pull it as you go out. Just in case you need more inflation blow on the red mouthpiece. There are also infant life jackets.

3. Count the rows of seats between your exits, front and back and take whichever one is faster. In darkness there will be lights to guide you to the exits.

These are the 3 things I choose for being safe on an airplane.

Summer learning journey week 1 day 2 activity 2

For this activity I had to agree on whether bullfighting in Spain should be banned or not. I feel like bull fighting should be banned. Since it is quite a dangerous activity. There is usually at least one life that is lost in bullfighting. It is either the competitor or the bull. The competitor is at risk of dying just for the entertainment of other people. If the bull is hooked enough times by other bullfighters on one foot it will (usually) be killed by a single sword thrust. I understand that it is part of the Spanish culture but do they really have to risk lives for this popular activity?

Summer learning journey week 1 activity 2

For this activity I needed to search for interesting facts about my country and write 3 of them that weren't said on the world map.

1. In Australia there are more kangaroos than humans on it.

2. 91% of Australia is covered in plants which is good for me since I like nature.

3. Most of Australia's plants cannot be found anywhere else in the world. So I may get to learn about the vegetation of Australia.

These are the three facts I have chosen for my blogpost. I hope you enjoyed them.

Summer learning journey week 1 activity 1

Australia

I would like to visit Australia because I like places that have nature. Another reason on why I want to visit Australia is because they have animals that we in New Zealand don't have. Such as kangaroos it would be interesting to see one in real life.

Year 8 Graduation Collage

The year 8's went to the Pakuranga Sailing Club to have their graduation dance and dinner. This collage shows some of the things year 8 did at the sailing club. We had our opened Christmas Crackers then had our dinner which was lasagna, salad, tomatoes, cucumbers, burger buns and ice cream with cake. After that we had our dance where we did cha cha and rock and roll.

PBS collage

I have gathered 15 images and used a google drawing to turn it into a collage. Read the collage left to right as if you were reading a comic strip. These pictures are in time order to show some of the events that happened from the beginning of school, to the some of the last activities we did near the end of the year.

The first image shows one of the first activities of Tech one of the groups did. The second one shows our trip to the Auckland library where we met Stig. 3rd and 4th is the olympic silhouette art. 5th and 6th is Rhythm Interactive. 7th-Paper planes. 8th-PBS Athletics day. 9th-Pigeon ideas, 3 vital, 4 very important and some important ideas. 10-Book character parade. 11-Run, Jump, Throw. 12 & 13-Hockey. 14-Making Hundertwasser Art. 15-Visiting Tahuna Torea.

Tech Rocket Building

LS2 went to Tech to finish off our rockets that we had built last week. My partners were Daniel, AJ and Lyndon. Our rockets had a parachute type of system where it would pop out and slow down the rockets fall due to air resistance. We also had some Blu tack in the cone of our rockets to make it heavier. Once we finished we went to the field of Tamaki Collage to test our rockets. The rocket my group made is called: UFA/Unidentified Flying Aircraft There were some interesting results that happened with each rocket we tested, our rocket flew by the clouds but the parachute system failed. I would like to thank Mr Dunn and Mrs Ferguson for using their time and effort so we could fly rockets with them. We have enjoyed our time with you and hope you also enjoyed your time with us.

Multimodal Reading

We are now in new reading groups (or with different people). I am with Gozan, Cecillia, Breeana, Ma'ata, Latham, AJ, Nazella, Lyndon and Reon.  The activities we did was our question matrix about Kuakas/Godwits and how people traveled overseas Today, 30 years ago and 100 years ago. We also did the problems that would happen. Internet searching and books were not allowed so we had to use our prior knowledge/knowledge that we already know for this task. Link to Multimodal.
